Seguin Township is recognizes today, April 2, as World Autism Day. This morning the Township raised the "Celebrate the Spectrum" flag, demonstrating support for inclusivity, advocacy, and awareness.
Seguin staff, Mayor Ann MacDiarmid, Councillors Greg Getty and Ken Adams were joined by students from Humphrey Public School for the flag raising.
"As we declared in our latest strategic plan document, a key value at the Township is inclusion. We encourage and value all voices in our community, from diverse backgrounds and identities," Mayor MacDiarmid told the group. "We strive to connect with all in our community and to ensure that we create a welcoming environment for each Seguin resident and all those who visit this community, including those affected by Autism Spectrum Disorder. By raising this flag, we are pledging our support for those in our community with Autism Spectrum Disorder, their friends and family and highlighting importance of increasing awareness and educating ourselves about this disorder."
